THE SCIENCE OF SMILING

Will someone who is happy smile a lot, or will someone who smiles a lot be happy? Which came first? It turns out that both can happen.

Maybe all this time we think that a smile is an expression of someone's happy feelings. That smile is the result. So when our friends smile to themselves, we usually conclude that they are happy.

It turns out that from a scientific point of view, a smile can also be a cause. When a person moves his facial muscles to smile, feelings of happiness arise as a result.

This is because a series of smiles will naturally activate the nerve center that regulates human emotions and feelings of happiness.

Besides affecting the nervous system, smiling also releases three important hormones, namely dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins. This release causes the heart rate to decrease, the body to relax, and to lower blood pressure. It's no wonder that endorphins are also known as the "happy hormones."

Apparently light habits like a smile, if dug deeper, reveal many complex sides of science. That is why the Prophet said in a hadith narrated by Muslim,

‎لاَ تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ أَنْ تَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِوَجْهٍ طَلْقٍ

"Never take a good deed lightly, for example you meet your brother with a smiling face."

Don't wait to be happy to smile, but smile then you will be happy.
